The Information Communication Technology, ICT sector now accounts for approximately ten per cent of nominal Gross Domestic Product, GDP.
The Association of Licensed Telecoms Companies of Nigeria, ALTON said as against 2016, it now has direct contribution of over one point five trillion naira to the economy.
The Association’s Chairman Gbenga Adebayo in a letter addressed to Communications Minister Ibrahim Pantami, seeking to draw his attention to the numerous of problems besetting the industry, said the sector has also constantly accounted for over thirty per cent of Nigerian Foreign Direct Investment since its deregulation in 2001.
Adebayo added that the sector has created over twenty thousand direct and one point five million indirect jobs since its deregulation in 2001.
He also urged the Minister to use his office to get an Executive Order to be issued designating “Telecoms Infrastructure as Critical National Security and Economic Infrastructure.
