Petrol scarcity is slowly resurfacing in parts of the country as private depot owners increased the ex-depot price of petrol from 630 to 720 naira per litre. This is coming as fuel scarcity deepened in Abuja and the adjoining states with some filling stations dispensing petrol as high as 900 naira per litre.
The National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Hammed Fashola, said many filling stations did not open for business because they had no fuel in their tanks.
He added that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, which is the sole importer of petrol at the moment, should explain to citizens what is happening with the product.
Fashola explained that currently, independent marketers cannot buy what the private depots are selling between 715 and 720 naira per litre.
The IPMAN Vice President, however, advised Nigerians to avoid panic buying, saying they should buy what they need so that the petrol in circulation could go round.
