Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, NCPWD, James Lalu, made plea when he received a delegation from the Humanitarian Mine Action Committee and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining,in Abuja.

He noted that the 2006 Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities provided a framework for the implementation of Victims’ Assistance in regards to survivors.

According to Lalu, Article 11 and 12 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities captured the Rights of Persons with Disabilities resulting from mines and explosives.

He also called the Humanitarian Mine Action Committee and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining to generate accurate and comprehensive data of victims of mine action, with a view to addressing their plights.

Valon Kumnova, of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, challenged the committees to be resilient and committed to assisting the victims of war as well as persons with disabilities.
