The Federal Government has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC to advice the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU to abide by the provisions of the Trade Disputes Act and call-off its ongoing strike.

The Federal Government and the Labour are expected to resume negotiation on a new national minimum wage on Friday, May 31, following a breakdown of discussions.

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero confirmed the development following a letter by the Chairman of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage inviting Labour to the table.

A copy of the letter, which was signed by the Secretary of the Committee, Ekpo Nta, confirmed that Organised Labour will honour the invitation but warned that the discussion will not be a monologue.

It will be recalled that on Tuesday, meetings between the Federal Government and o Labour end in deadlock after the government and Organised Private Sector, OPS raised their offers to 60,000 naira. While, the government added 3,000 naira to its initial offer of 57,000 niara proposed last week, taking the total figure to 60,000 naira.
