The Federal Government has announce measures to address the high cost of food across the country.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, who made this known on his official X account, said there will be a 150-day duty-free import window for food commodities.
He explained that the window include the suspension of duties,tariffs, and taxes for the importation of certain food commodities through land and sea borders, adding targeted commodities include maize, husked brown that the rice, wheat, and cowpeas.
Kyari also said these measures will be implemented over the next 180 days.
The Minister added that the imported food commodities will be subjected to a Recommended Retail Price, RRP to achieve the objective.
He also said the Government will import 250,000 metric tons of wheat and 250,000 metric tons of maize, and assured that all standards will be maintained to ensure the safety and quality of food items for consumption.
