The International Conference Centre (ICC), under the administration of the Federal Capital Territory (FCTA), has been temporarily shut down for refurbishment. The decision was made by the FCT Minister Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, during an inspection visit of the ICC facilities in Abuja on April 8, 2024.

The FCT Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the facilities, emphasizing the need for the immediate renovation to meet international standards. Consequently, all events that were to be held at the Centre have been cancelled.

The poor condition of the ICC facilities was brought to the Minister’s attention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the inauguration of the ECOWAS Parliament. Barrister Nyesom Wike agreed that the current state of the ICC is unacceptable and does not meet the criteria of an international conference centre, leading to the decision to close it for renovations.

Julius Berger Plc, the original builders of the complex, have been tasked with the rehabilitation of the ICC. Upon completion of the renovation, the management of the ICC will be returned to the Abuja Investment Company.
