The police are holding 128 persons for electoral offences during Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections. It also said they had recovered 38 weapons and some explosives.
According to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, the Special Election Investigation Team has been directed to begin a discreet investigation of all security-related infractions during the election and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to book in accordance with the law.
Following the violence recorded in some parts of the country, the IG also directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General and Command Commissioners of Police to intensify post-election monitoring with special focus on collation centres.
The Police Boss warned against inciting comments and unlawful dissemination of election results, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was the only agency authorised to announce results.��`Z��^’��
