The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has assured that no Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs would be disenfranchised in the 2023 general elections.
INEC Commissioner supervising Benue and Enugu states Festus Okoye, who gave the pledged while speaking with reporters in Benue State, said plans were underway to implement the policy on IDPs voting.
He also explained that the electoral body already has a policy on IDPs voting and implementation of the policy is going to pilot now.
Okoye however stressed that for every person who has registered previously and has lost their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, the Commission will give them their permanent voters’ card.
The Commissioner added that IDPs who are in their federal and state constituencies, INEC will recreate their polling units in their camps and they will be in the position to vote in the 2023 election.
