El-Zakzaky: Federal Government Provides Reason For His Continued Detention

The Federal Government has given explanations for not freeing the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shiites, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, in a statement said the Federal Government could not interfere with the El-Zakzaky case because he is still being prosecuted by a State government.

He also refuted assumptions that the Federal Government is compelled to release Omoyele Sowore and Sambo Dasuki.

It would be recalled that the Justice Minister ordered the immediate release of Dasuki and Sowore, who were in the custody of the Department of State Security Service, DSS.

Malami explained that the reasons for the release of Omoyele Sowore and Sambo Dasuki revolved around the commitment to the rule of law, obedience for Court orders and compassionate grounds.

The Minister added that it is in line with the above provisions of the law that the Federal Government considered the Court orders in respect of these cases.
