The Golden Eaglets are expected to depart the country on Wednesday (today) barring any last-minute hitch for the U-17 World Cup preparatory tournament in Istanbul Turkey, a team official has informed the press

The tournament which is aimed at increasing solidarity and facilitating football development worldwide will feature teams from the three continents taking part at the U17 World Cup in Brazil.

The Eaglets will face host Turkey, Senegal and Guatemala in Group 1 and their coach Manu Garba is prepared to run the rule over some of the aspiring stars hoping to catch the eye at the World stage.

“I know we’ve got a good squad and a lot of really good young talent,” Garba told pressmen

“First is to be competitive at the tournament and it’s also a test for the players to rise to the level expected as well.

“I think the motivation should be there (for youngsters to breakthrough), but I understand that if a door can seem locked for a long time then it can affect young players.

“I have spoken about it to them and I will make it very clear going in that the door is open if you prove that you are good enough, but I do think the motivation should be there.”
