The Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu-Aboki, has ordered the release of 37 inmates from the Goron Dutse Medium Security Custodial Centre, as part of ongoing efforts to decongest the state’s correctional facilities.

The decision to release the inmates was driven by two main factors, which include, their deteriorating health conditions and prolonged detention without trial.

Many of the freed inmates were reported to be suffering from severe health issues that worsened during their time in custody.

In addition, some of the inmates had been held for an extended period without facing trial, raising concerns about violations of their rights.

While addressing the released inmates, Justice Abdu-Aboki urged them to maintain good behaviour and avoid actions that could lead to reoffending.
