Apapa Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service has intercepted a container with No. 1793504 manifested as ceramic tiles and was found to contain 554 cartons of Tramadol capsules of 120mg.

The Area Controler of the command Ibrahim Malanta Yusuf told disclosed to news men that the tramadol capsules were concealed with 1000 cartons of ceramic tiles and the management team of the command were able to track it upon 100% physical examination to ascertain it’s true contents.

Ibrahim Malanta added that other items seized within three weeks after he resumed as the controller of the command includes one container of unregistered pharmaceutical product containing 989 cartons of Mixagrip tablets wrongly declared as winches and gaskets and one fourty feet container loaded with sacks of mosquito coil products but declared as ground paper and parking paper bag, seven containers loaded with bales of used clothing and shoes.

“At this point, it is noteworthy to state that the consignments are out rightly seized for breaching the previous provisions of sections 46, 47 and 161 of CEMA CAF C45 LFN 2004 and provision of schedule 4(17) of the common external tariff.

“Base on the foregoing the command has launched a preliminary investigation with a view to identify consignees for arrest and possibly prosecution in connection with this criminal and unlawful importation .

He also disclosed that the total value of the aforementioned seizures stood at two hundred and twenty three million,two hundred and twenty five thousand, nine hundred naira.
