The Lagos State Police Command has rescued about nineteen antenatal girls and four children suspected to have been abducted by persons engaged in child trafficking.
The Command’s Spokesperson Bala Elkana in a statement said that it also arrested two female suspects, Happiness Ukwuoma and Sherifat Ipeya in connection with the crime.
He added that the command had launched a manhunt on the prime suspect and mother of five known as Madam Oluchi a native of Imo state.
Elkana said that the girls, who were between the ages of fifteen and twenty eight were allegedly trafficked from Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Abia and Imo States to Lagos State.
He further explained that the suspects who were
natives of Imo and Epe in Lagos State did not have any formal medical
training but were allegedly operating as nurses. It was revealed that baby
girls are sold for three hundred naira while boys go for five hundred
thousand naira.
