The Confederation of African Football, CAF has suspended the 2022 African Cup of Nations, AFCON draw over logistical reasons associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. The draw was originally scheduled for 25 June 2021.

The Continent’s Football governing body however, confirmed that a new date will be announced in the due course.

It was learnt that already 31 countries have qualified for the next year’s tournament in Cameroon and that one team still remains to qualify between Benin and Sierra Leone after their match was postponed for this month.

CAF said in a statement released that the request to reschedule the draw was made by the Cameroon Local Organizing Committee, LOC to the confederation.

In another development, the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare has challenged the Super Falcons to raise their heads up in spite of the 2-4 defeat by the Banyana Banyana of South Africa at the just-concluded Aisha Buhari Cup. Dare gave the advice when he visited the team in the dressing room after a disappointing result against their arch rival, the South African team. The Minister also urged the Falcons to put their pieces together for the next challenge ahead of them.
