COVI-19: FG Receives $311m Abacha Loot

The Federal Government has confirmed the receipt of 311 million dollars loot by the late military Head of State General Sani Abacha.

The loot was repatriated from the United States and the Bailiwick of Jersey.

The Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, said the money is  repatriated from the U.S. and Jersey.

According to Malami, the amount increased significantly from over 308  million as stated in a press release in February to over 311 million because of the interest that accrued from February 3rd, to 28th April, , when the fund was transferred to the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to the statement, the recovery effort further consolidates on the established record of the regime of the President Muhammadu Buhari, which has a history of recovery of 322 million from Switzerland in 2018 that is being transparently and judiciously deployed in supporting indigent Nigerians as specified in the agreement signed with the Switzerland and the World Bank.
