The Federal Government has restated its commitment to decongesting all the Correctional Centres across the country.
The Minister of Interior, Ra’uf Aregbesola announced this at the Joint Public Hearing on the 2020 Federal Government Budget, organised by the Appropriation Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives.
Aregbesola said the purpose of setting up such centres by the federal government was to rehabilitate, reform and reintegrate inmates into the society.
Director Press and Public Relations, of the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga, made this known in a statement in Abuja.
According to him, the De-congestion Committee set up by the federal government is working with the Attorney-General of the Federation, State Governments, the Judiciary and other relevant stakeholders in the Justice sector.
On his part, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan said the two-day joint hearing on the 2020 Appropriation was to get public views and inputs before the passage of the budget in December.
