Clamour For Restructuring: ‘Devolve Powers To States For Effectiveness’ - Akeredolu Advises FG

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said the clamour for restructuring was all about devolving powers to the states to make them function effectively.

Declaring that he does not believe in the disintegration of Nigeria, the governor observed that the fiscal policy and over-centralisation of power had turned Nigeria into a unitary entity.

Akeredolu, who spoke while playing host to officials of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission, NSSEC, who were in the state for a one-day advocacy and sensitisation workshop on the establishment of the commission with education stakeholders in Southwest states in Akure, lamented that putting many items in the exclusive list had concentrated too much powers in the hands of the Federal Government, adding that Nigeria’s unity was premised on sustainable true federalism.

The governor identified over-centralisation of structures of governance as a major reason for the unending agitations for restructuring.

Akeredolu therefore advised the NSSEC team to limit its operations to curriculum formulation, monitoring and implementation rather than wholesale take-over of secondary schools’ administration in the country.
