The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of its commitment to work with other security agencies to enhance election security in the country.
The Corps’ Commandant General Ahmed Audi gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, in his office in Abuja.
He added that the corps would strengthen its collaboration with INEC to ensure peaceful conduct of elections in the country, including the Anambra state governorship election slated for November 6. The Commandant-General said that NSCDC had re-strategised its processes for election security.
Audi also pledged that the corps would strengthen its personnel to continue to protect INEC facilities nationwide, especially in the South-East and South-South were the commission’s facilities had been largely attacked in recent times.
In his remarks, Yakubu commended NSCDC’s reaffirmation to strengthen the existing partnership between the agency and INEC, in the best interest of Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that as a member of the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, the corps was playing a critical role in the whole gamut of electoral activities in Nigeria.
