The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has approved the launching of Operation “Amotekun” by the South-West Governors for the region.

The security outfit is expected to be launched today at the Oyo State Government House, in Ibadan.

Adamu gave the approval at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, when he met with Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi. He had earlier summoned all the six State governors of the zone to an emergency meeting for clarifications on grey areas of the operations of the security network.

The Police Boss granted that “Amotekun” be launched as it is a fallout of the South-West Security Summit, organised by the Police last year.

The Force’s Spokesman, Frank Mba, said the Police Boss has insisted that the operations of “Amotekun” must be in line with the National Security Policy.

He added that Adamu is working with the South-West governors to streamline the operations in line with the community-policing programme endorsed by President Buhari.
