United States Attorney General, William Barr told congressional leaders that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation had shown no evidence US President Donald Trump had colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 presidential elections.
“The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 US presidential election,” Barr said in his letter on Sunday.
Barr further stated that he did not find there was sufficient evidence in the investigation to suggest that the president had obstructed justice.
“The Special Counsel states that ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him’,” he wrote.
Trump posted on Twitter: “No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!” following the release of Barr’s summary.
