The District Head of Wawa in the Borgu emirate of Niger state Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu has been kidnapped, just two days after bandits killed about 20 villagers in revenge in Magami, Shiroro local Government Area of the State.

A source close to the community said the bandits have demanded 100 million naira ransom for the release of the traditional ruler.

The Dodo of Wawa as the District head is popularly referred to, was kidnapped by the heavily armed men from his palace on Saturday night.

It was leant that the gunmen, all dressed in military uniform, and riding on motorcycles, stormed the palace of the District Head at about 12 midnight and too  him away  to an unknown destination.

Report says the Wawa town is about two kilometers to the 221 Wawa Military cantonment in Borgu.

However, Niger State Police Spokesman DSP Wasiu Abiodun said special anti-kidnap squad was already on the trail of the gunmen, assuring that the kidnappers would be apprehended.
