Crime Fight: Gov. Masari Frowns At Indiscriminate Discharge Of Suspects On Bail

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State says seven states in the North-West and North-Central have agreed to recruit 3,000 special vigilantes to assist in combating banditry and kidnapping.

He announced this while answering questions from newsmen on the sideline of a Consultative Meeting with the Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed and traditional rulers, in Katsina, noting that the vigilantes will be trained by the Nigeria Police Force.

Masari explained that Governors of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Niger, Katsina and Nasarawa states had met and decided to recruit the personnel to assist security agencies in addressing the security peculiarities.

He however, noted that the fight against insecurity in the society should be a collective effort and advised citizens to support security agencies.

On his part, the Minister explained that he was in the state with reporters from 22 media organizations to get first-hand statistics on the issue of banditry, kidnapping, cattle rusting among others. He added that details of their findings would be presented to President Muhammadu Buhari for appropriate action.
