Anambra Guber: INEC Explains Election “Inconclusive”

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has postponed the announcement of result and declaration of a winner in the Anambra State Governorship election, pending the determination of election in Ihiala Local Government area.

It added that the election in Ihiala was suspended due crisis in that area and will be conducted on Tuesday November 9.

However, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chukwuma Soludo is leading in the Governorship election held on Saturday, from the 19 local governments’ results so far declared by the country’s Electoral body on Sunday.

INEC Returning Officer for the Anambra Governorship election Florence Obi, made the announcement Sunday in Awka.

Obi, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Cross River, announced that the election would be conducted in Ihiala on Tuesday, November 9. She also explained that election could not hold in the LGA due to security reasons.

Quoting relevant sections of the Electoral Act and the nation’s Constitution, Obi said it would be wrong to announce the result without allowing people in 131 polling units in Ihiala to exercise their civic duties.
