Nigeria’s Super Eagles and three time African champions yesterday defeated the Pirates of Seychelles 3-1 to end the 2019 AFCON qualifiers on a high note.

It was a dead-rubber fixture because the Super Eagles had already qualified for the 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Egypt in June.

Nigeria’s opening goal of the match came from the spot in the 35th minute when Odion Ighalo converted a penalty that was awarded to the Eagles after a foul on Wilfred Ndidi in the box.

Six minutes later, a howler by the Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, provided the opportunity for Rody Melanie to level scores for the visitors.

A goal each from Henry Onyekuru and substitute Simon Moses in the second half of the match played in Asaba, Delta State handed the Super Eagles the maximum points.

The Super Eagles will on Tuesday play the Pharaohs of Egypt in an international friendly at the same venue.
