AFCON Qualifiers: Babangida, Omokaro Criticizes Coach Rohr’s List For Sierra Leone Clash

Former Super Eagles forward Tijani Babangida has criticized the non-inclusion of home-based players except goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa in the 24-man squad to face Sierra Leone in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on March 27th.

Coach Gernot Rohr handed maiden call ups to Cyriel Dessers and Kingsley Ehizibue, while also recalling Kelechi Iheancaho who has not been with the Eagles since missing the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

According to Babangida, Rohr’s collection did not come as a surprise because majority of the players who made the team were expected

In same vein, a Former Nigerian international, Bright Omokaro has also expressed disappointment over the invitation of 23 foreign-based players by the Coach for the 2021 African Nations Cup qualifier against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, saying it is a waste of scarce resources.

He added that Rohr should have included six or seven home-based players to the squad because not all the listed overseas-based players would play in the tie.
