The Confederation of African Football, CAF has increased the number of players each country will submit for the 2021 African Cup of Nations, AFCON from 23 to 28.
It would be recalled that Cameroon is expected to host the competition that was postponed to January 9 to February 6, 2022 due to the COVID-19pandemic.
The decision was contained in a letter signed by the Director of Competitions Samson Adamu sent to Member Associations and is aimed towards availing participating countries the opportunity of a larger squad to execute their matches should players test positive for COVID-19.
It explained that concerning the number of substitutions, CAF will apply the law of three substitutions per match (+1 additional substitution in case of extra time) during the final tournament of the Africa Cup of Nations.
In another development, Coach Remi Amadi of Cofine football club of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has been ban for two years from all football-related activities by world football –governing body, FIFA.
The world body’s Disciplinary Committee sent this decision to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and it is a consequence of a similar ban imposed on the gaffer by the NFF Disciplinary Committee at its meeting of 16th August 2021.
