DisCos not to increase electricity tariffs as announced by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC pending the determination of a motion challenging it.
It was reported that the Senate might summon the DisCos, Minister of Power Saleh Mamman, NERC Chairman, James Momoh and other relevant stakeholders in the sector over the planned tariff review.
The NERC had on December 31st directed the DisCos to review upward their rates by over seventy percent, to enable them have enough money to pay for electricity distributed by them.
But the Commission vowed that consultations with consumers and stakeholders would be carried out to determine if or not the new rate would stand; this is coming following public outcry.
Justice Muslim Hassan ordered the parties to maintain the status quo while hearing the suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of Human Rights Foundation against fifteen other respondents in the electricity industry.
