The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police Ayuba Elkana says the security actions recently put in place by the state government was not politically motivated.

It would be recalled that Governor Bello Matawalle had announced seven security measures, as part of his efforts at addressing the worsening security situation in the state.

The Police Chief, who spoke at a news conference in Gusau, ordered personnel to ensure full enforcement of the security measures.

He said part of the security measures, was that all weekly markets across the state be closed indefinitely and that no sale of fuel in jerry cans be allowed. Also the ban on the operations of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in Gusau between 8pm and 6am and 6pm to 6am in other local governments outside the state capital.

The Police Commissioner also quoted the Governor as directing that filling stations should not sell more than 10,000 naira worth of petrol to commercial vehicles as well as placing ban on carrying firewood across the state.
