Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State has presented the 2023 draft budget of 370 billion naira to the State House of Assembly.
The Appropriation Bill conform with his administration’s 60:40 ratio of capital to recurrent expenditure. It is the eighth and final budget of El-Rufai’s tenure which ends in May 2023.
The Governor explained that the 2023 budget of 370.33 billion naira, which is a 21.82 per cent increase over the 2022 revised appropriation of 303.99 billion naira. He also added that 242.21 billion naira was for capital expenditure and 127.7 billion naira as recurrent expenses.
El-Rufai stressed that the 2023 estimates maintained the government focus on human capital development, adding that the proposal allocates 45.34 per cent of the budget to Education and Health.
He pointed out that the budget estimates had provisions for pro-poor interventions in nutrition, health care, skills acquisition and empowerment funds for women, youths, and vulnerable groups.
