The Senate has rejected the report of its Committee on Drugs and Narcotics when it discovered the document that illegally contains 4.5 billion naira meant for the construction of Police barracks in the 2022 budget for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotic Hezekiah Dimka, while the presenting the report to the Committee on Appropriations, said his Committee discovered the irregularity in the course of scrutinizing the budget document presented to it by the Ministry of Finance and raised the alarm.
Also, Barau Jibrin-led Committee on Appropriation turned down the report on the budget for NDLEA and requested the Committee to correct the padded 4.5 billion naira.
It was gathered that the 4.5 billion naira padding in the budget for NDLEA came after the Senate Committee on Environment chaired by former Deputy President of the Senate Ike Ekweremadu discovered how the sum of 16 million naira was inserted in the proposed in the 2022 Appropriation Bill for the repayment of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP.
