The Kaduna State Government is to spend about 8.2 billion naira on primary healthcare in 2022, as contained in the budget of 278.6 billion naira signed by Governor Nasir El-Rufai on December 22.

It was gathered that of the 8.2 billion naira allocated to the state Primary Health Care Development Board 5.8 billion naira was earmarked for capital projects while 2.5 billion naira was for recurrent expenditure. Also 4.3 billion naira was earmarked for the construction, renovation and upgrading of Primary Healthcare Centres, PHCs, 255 health clinics, reconstruction of PHCB Headquarters and consultancy services.

A document also showed that 233.6 million naira was allocated for the procurement of personal protective equipment for 1,154 health facilities for the prevention of COVID-19, while 25.5 million naira was earmarked for preventive maintenance of equipment in 255 PHCs

A total of 954.3 million naira was earmarked as counterpart for various health projects, including Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.
