2022 AFCON: Super Eagles Depart Today, Vow To Return With Trophy

The Super Eagles are expected to depart Nigeria today for Cameroon for African Nation Cup, AFCON as the quest for the fourth continental trophy begins, January 9th.

The three-time Africa champions have been in camp in Abuja and have also promised to bring home the trophy won in 2013.

Captain Ahmed Musa, while speaking during a virtual press conference, said the mission of the team is to go and win the title in Cameroon.

It will be recalled that Musa, alongside Kenneth Omeruo, was part of the 2013 AFCON winning team under late Stephen Keshi and hoped that Super Eagles win the bi-annual competition for the fourth time.

His position was reechoed by striker Taiwo Awoniyi who has assured Nigerians that they will do well and make the country proud.

Awoniyi, who made his debut in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic, was listed among the 28 players that will fly the country’s flag in the 33rd edition of the tournament.

The group stage will see Nigeria in Group-D taking on Egypt on January 11; Sudan on January 15, and Guinea Bissau on January 19. All three matches will take place at the Adjia Stadium in Garoua.
