Senators and members of the House of Representatives have
called for the replacement of
Service Chiefs, whom they said are no longer proficient of delivering on their mandate. They asked them to either
resign or be fired by President Muhammadu
Buhari.
Lawmakers noted that the recent upsurge in security-related
challenges
and the devastating loss of lives
and properties across the country was
enough ground for them to ask for the Service Chiefs’ exit. Both Chambers at
Wednesday’s plenary devoted to the debate on the
rising insurgency and other forms of
criminality.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, President Muhammadu
Buhari said
that he was “taken aback” by the resurge in
banditry and promised harder actions
against criminals.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan condemned the security
architecture of
the country, describing it as ineffective and fast
deteriorating.
Also, in the House of Representatives, members called on the
Service
Chiefs to quit immediately. They accused the
security chiefs of using the same schemes
that failed to yield results, and called on the President to sack them if they failed to voluntarily resign their
positions.
