Stakeholders in the health sector have urged the Federal Government to fast-track the development and implementation of the Approved Patent Medicines List to curb the menace of drug abuse in the country.
The stakeholders, who made the call at a planning meeting for the review of the APML in Abuja, said the strategy would reduce the menace of drug abuse.
The meeting was organised by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria in collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria-Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale Project.
The stakeholders deliberated on the inclusion of drugs in the proposed APML for each category of the three tiers of PPMVs focusing on FP and other Primary Health Care commodities.
the Senior Programme Officer, PSN-PAS, Edwin Akpotor, said the meeting was aimed at reviewing and reaching an agreement on a road map towards re-positioning Patent and Proprietary Medicines Vendors to providing quality services at the community level.
