Elective Offices: Bill Seeking Higher Educational Qualification Passes 2nd Reading At Reps

The House of Representatives has set up an ad hoc committee to investigate funds belonging to the Federal Government being held in commercial banks.

The lower chamber of the National Assembly also alleged that 71 million Nigerians were operating bank accounts without proper identification.

The total amount being held by commercial banks is allegedly worth 1.2 trillion naira.

The committee, which is headed by Unyime Idem, would investigate the unremitted funds as well as infractions by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission ICPC, has faulted the global anti-corruption coalition, Transparency International TI, which rated Nigeria the second most corrupt country in West Africa.

Speaking at an event, media consultant to the ICPC chairman, Oluyinka Akintunde, in his presentation on Nigeria’s global anti-corruption coalition assessment, said the report was based on outdated data sources.
