The Federal Fire Service has reviewed the national fire and rescue safety code to minimise fire outbreaks in the country.

Controller General of the Service Ibrahim Liman made this known in Minna, Niger state at the closing ceremony of a five-day summit on the review of the safety documents. The documents reviewed during the conference include: Fire and Rescue Safety Code, National Fire Rescue Policy, Standard Operating Procedure and Federal Fire Service Rules and Regulations.

He explained that that the review was to block gaps is the guidelines and ensure that structural developers, builders, occupants of buildings or properties imbibe the fire safety regulations.

Liman said the target was to reduce losses and protect investments, adding that the fire service standard operating procedure (SOP) review covered disaster management before, during and after, and the responsibilities of first responders during emergencies.

The conference consultant, a retired senior officer of the Service Olisaemeka Madichie, hoped that there would be a follow up of the document after submission to the appropriate authorities.

Also, one of the facilitators, retired Deputy Controller General of the service Quintus Azogu said the review was timely, as the Act guiding the service was obsolete and needed a rejig.
