The Interfaith Mediation Centre, IMC, in partnership with Mercy Corps, has began community engagement in Kaduna State to promote mediation and curb violence.
The engagement, under the Community Initiatives to Promote Peace, CIPP project, is meant to empower communities with mediation tools to tackle issues that may worsen to conflict.
The delegation, including representation from Plateau state was at Unguwan Rimi community, where it engaged community, religious and youth leaders on the project.
The District Head of Unguwan Rimi, Shehu Maikatifa, In his remark, appreciated the delegation and assured that members of the community now live as one family. Maikatifa who was represented by the Chief Imam of the community, Musa Yahaya said there is relative peace with no issue of religion or ethnic crisis in recent times. He however called on stakeholders to hold similar engagement with their neighbours in Plateau state, to advance peaceful coexistence across all areas.
Evelyn Ezekiel from Bokos Local Government in Plateau state appreciated the programme, saying it had deepened their knowledge on peace mediation and pledged to cascade the knowledge in her community.
A permanent commissioner Rabeca Saku, who received the delegates, pledged to strengthen collaboration with the two organisations and other stakeholders to achieve sustainable pace in the state.
