Nigeria is collaborating with the Republic of Korea on the integrated national security and waterways protection infrastructure known as the Deep Blue Project which is aimed at protecting the Gulf of Guinea from piracy and other maritime crimes.
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, made this known when the
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea, Choi Jong Kun
paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
He said issues concerning the transport sector were discussed mostly as
it relates to the maritime relationship, especially the Deep Blue Project
and have concluded plans to collaborate with the government of the
Republic of Korea.
Choi Jong Kun said Republic of Korea is interested in finding ways to
secure the Gulf of Guinea, as it has strong fishery and maritime presence
there, and promised to support the Nigerian government to tackle
worrisome maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea.
The Korean diplomat also disclosed that the Korean government plans to
host a Joint Commission with Nigeria sometime in October in Seoul,
Korea.
