Poor Dietary : UNICEF Says 800,000 Children Suffer Stunted Growth

A standard survey conducted by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF has showed that 800 thousand children between the ages of six and 59 months are stunted due to poor dietary in Kano State.

The Kano Emirate Council Committee on Health and Human Development, KECCoHD, led by Dayyabu Muhammad, announced this at a one-day town-hall meeting for community leaders on dietary diversity comprehensive modeling project, held at Bichi local government area of the State, organised by the council, in collaboration with UNICEF.

Muhammad observed that the outcome of the survey triggered the committee to begin an outreach in two local government areas to save twenty-three-thousand-five-hundred-and-eight children aged 6-23 months.

He noted that the Committee is also aiming at ensuring that twenty-five-thousand-and-seventy-five mothers and care-givers of children aged 6-23.

Bichi and Sumaila local government areas were counseled on improving dietary diversity.
