The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has criticized the Federal Government of using the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System, IPPIS to demoralise the re-negotiation of the 2009 agreement and Memorandum of Action.
The ASUU chairman of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, Rabi’u Nasiru, who made this known, said the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation is the tool being used to achieve federal movement’s aim of distracting ASUU from continuing with the negotiation.
He noted that failure of the office to intimidate ASUU members to enroll in the IPPIS made the exercise a failure in the universities.
Nasiru added after the 2009 agreement of 7th February, 2019, it was decided that a visitation panel, through which excesses of the university system are checked, would be sent to various Federal Universities by 11th March, 2019, but that the panels are yet to be constituted by the federal government despite the hues and shouts about fighting corruption.
The union advised the Federal Government to abstain from any action that would damage the University Sovereignty for the sake of future Nigerian generations.
