Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami has faulted the position of Southwest governors on Tuesday’s altercation between the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and a Chief Superintendent of Police over the Magodo land dispute.
The police officer had claimed to be acting on the order of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Inspector-General Alkali Usman.
Speaking for his colleagues in the region the Southwest Governors’ Forum, Ondo State Governor Olurotimi Akeredolu, flayed the role of the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General in the deployment of a police detachment.
The governors also described as repugnant the disrespectful attitude displayed by the police officer who declined to carry out the Sanwo-Olu’s directives.
But, Malami justified his involvement in the matter, arguing that his intervention was in furtherance of the doctrine of the rule of law.
Malami, in the statement by his spokesman, Umar Gwandu, said it was within his responsibility, as the nation’s Chief Law Officer, to ensure the execution of valid court decisions.
