
The Federal Government has underscored the need for programme initiatives centred on catering for the wellbeing of the retired, ageing and aged Nigerians.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, made this known at the roundtable and official launch of the Jola Adekola Initiative for Retired, Ageing and Aged in Abuja.
Onyeama was represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zubairu Dada.
He noted that parents deserved more attention and care because of their sacrifices on young people to become self-reliant adults.
The Minister of humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq, said that issues surrounding ageing and the aged were of global concern.
Sadiya, represented by a Director in the ministry, Valentine Ezulu, noted that the issue of ageing was receiving global attention, it is placed at the front burner of global discourse.
According to her, Nigeria cannot be left behind; the population of ageing and the aged are fast becoming a global phenomenon and they are growing fast in Nigeria.
