The Confederation of African Football, CAF says winners of the 33 rd Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON scheduler to begin from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon will receive 4.5 million euros.
It added that while the runners-up will earn €2.64m, the third-place playoff
winners will get 2.2 million euros, same as semi-finalists and that all
quarter-finalists are entitled to over 703,000 euros each.
CAF also said each of the 24 countries entered for the competition will
receive at least 534,000 euros for participation.
President of CAF Patrice Motsepe made this known during the draws for
the continental showpiece in Yaounde, Cameroon last year that there were
plans to increase the prize money from 3.9 million euros.
He added the CAF intended to increase the prize money and that
discussions are ongoing with sponsors, adding that the confederation want
to show the world that African football is as good and amongst the best in
the world.
