The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC is set for a showdown with some State Governors over their failure to meet the December 31st ultimatum to conclude negotiation and commence payment of the thirty thousand naira minimum wage.

The Organised Labour had said it could embark on a warning strike after January 6th, as only few states have met the time limit. So far, only Lagos, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa and Adamawa States have complied.

The NLC Chairman, Federal Capital Territory, Abubakar Alhassan Yakubu explained that after a warning strike, Labour will think of the next line of action, as it cannot guarantee industrial harmony in those States.

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom, of Benue State, has constituted a Negotiating Committee on National Minimum Wage few days ago, to work out modalities for the payment of the minimum wage.

Also, Governor Benedict Ayade, of Cross River State, had assured workers in the State that he would pay the new national minimum wage. And, Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has constituted a 15-man committee to negotiate the new minimum wage with the State’s chapter of the NLC, among other States.
