The President of the UN General Assembly, UNGA Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, says no African country is silent on racism and xenophobia, as all nations on the continent condemned such actions.

He said this in Abuja, during his first official visit to the country as President of the General Assembly. He also affirmed that racism, xenophobia and resurgent nationalism and tendencies toward protectionism in Africa and other parts of the world were threats to multilateralism.

According to Muhammad-Bande, no country or community is self-sufficient, hence the need to strife for peace, and unity, and going forward requires collective efforts toward addressing the challenges and concerns of the continent.

In another development, the President explained that the visions of the 74th General Assembly of ensuring peace, poverty eradication, education for all and climate action are key factors to attaining global development. According to him, the Assembly chooses these priority areas among others because they are the major drivers to achieving global development, which is what the world yearns for.
