The Kaduna Forest Ranger has said that six rangers died in the line of duty from January 2018 to date.

The Chief Forest Ranger Hamisu Sulaiman made this known in an event organised to mark the 2019 World Rangers Day in Kaduna. He said that the rangers were shot and killed by bandits while some died by snake bites.

Sulaiman said twenty six others had died from similar attacks in the last 26 years. He called on well-meaning Nigerians to join in raising awareness of poaching activities within the National Parks and protected areas across the country.

The Commissioner, Kaduna State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource, Ibrahim Hussaini appreciated the selfless efforts of rangers for ensuring the protection of Nigeria’s biodiversity within the National Parks and other protected areas.

He said the celebration was to commemorate rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and the work rangers do to protect nature, urging Nigerians to show support to rangers nationwide.
