2023: INEC Rules Out Plans Of Toying With Elections Timelines

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has ruled out any plan to tamper with the schedule of activities for the 2023 general polls.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee Festus Okoye, stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

Okoye was speaking against the backdrop of the two months extension of deadline for the conduct of parties’ primary recently sought by Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC. He explained that any change in the June 3rd  deadline will affect other activities for elections.

The Commissioner also affirmed that the timetable and schedule of activities released by INEC are derived from the constitution, the Electoral Act and the Regulations and Guidelines of the commission.

Okoye, who said the commission was already engaged with lots of activities, explained that it would amount to arbitrariness to adjust the election timetable. He however stated that it was too late to interfere with the timelines, stressing that the commission had released the timetable and schedule on February 26th .
