The 36 state governors of the federation have been challenged to disclose details on spending of the two billion naira palliative recently disbursed by the Federal Government, including the names of beneficiaries and details of the reliefs so far provided with the money.

Deputy Director of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, Kolawole Oluwadare, in an open letter in Abuja, said it is in the public interest to publish the details on spending of the funds.

SERAP also noted that Nigerians have the right to know how their states are spending the fuel subsidy relief funds. It is part of their legally enforceable human rights.

According to reports, the Government recently disbursed two billion naira out of the 5 billion naira palliative package for each state and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to address the impact of the removal of petrol subsidy.
