ASUU: NLC Holds Abuja Mega Solidarity Protest On Wednesday

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has alleged that agents of the Federal Government are plotting to decimate the country‘s public university system to allow privately-owned ones to flourish.

ASUU however maintained that if industrial action remained the only language the government understood, it would continue to speak it, vowing not to allow such a plan to succeed.

The Union made the assertion through its Port Harcourt Zone in a paper read by its Zonal Coordinator, Stanley Ogoun, at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers state.

Coordinator of the Zone also listed mediators of the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Accountant General, the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA and a Federal Permanent Secretary, as problems to resolving ASUU issues with the Federal Government. He however explained that said Labour and Employment Minister, Chris Ngegi who assumed the role of a negotiator, had failed to perform the role the union expected of him in the face-off.

The Association urged members of the public to disregard the claims by that government had paid ASUU 50 billion naira the Earned Academic Allowance, EAA Revitalisation Funds.
