Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has condemned the kidnap and eventual murder of five year old Hanifa by her teacher, Abubakar after collecting the ransom of six million naira from her parents.

A Statement issued by the National President of NAWOJ, Comrade Ladi
Bala, condemned the killing of the five year old as one of the most
horrific, barbaric and inhuman evil acts of wickedness recorded in recent
times.

NAWOJ says the killing of the innocent child by her school proprietor,
smirks of gross betrayal of trust which the little girl and her parents
reposed in the institution and the proprietor.

While noting that the cases of killings for money and ritual purposes has
assumed a frightening dimension, NAWOJ says it is pained that the
killings, kidnappings, sexual and gender based violence are taking
severe toll on women and girls, who are soft targets of evil perpetrators.

NAWOJ noted the case of Aisha Umar,an internally displaced
person, who was lured and raped by an Humanitarian worker that led her
to committing suicide in Maiduguri,Borno State and the brutal murder of
the son of a gender Activist,Ene Ede in Abuja recently by yet to be
identified persons to mention but a few are all indicators that all is not
well in Nigeria.

The body, therefore, appeal to Nigerians to be more vigilant and report
suspicious characters to security agencies.
